Rule of Thirds Photography Meetup

Rule of Thirds Photography Meetup

Saturday 25 May
THE DERRY - 11am - 2 Hours
Conor McClean
One of the most basic tenets of composition is the Rule of Thirds. Although most people are familiar with this technique it is often forgotten in the haste to take a photo. However you ignore it at your peril as it can make an average snap into something which is has tension and dynamism.

In this meetup we will practice using the Rule of Thirds in a setting full of photographic possibility.

We will dive into composition and what makes a good photograph. There are many elements that go into a fantastic composition. We will highlight on pattern, texture, symmetry and asymmetry, lines, frames, contrast and color, balance, and background.

Its about capturing not only the design and accurate representation of a building, but to have the shots be aesthetically pleasing to the viewer's eye. An architectural photographer makes pictures, not takes pictures.

In this session, we will be covering how to better understand Architecture photography and we'll be looking at ways to take some impressive shots and the camera settings to use.

I had taken a number of shots three hours earlier in very showery conditions. I returned when the front had passed through, leaving spring-like conditions. I loved the lone tree, growing from the cliff edge.

This was my first attempt at astrophotography in Brisbane and was a trial shot more than anything. I went looking for an eastern facing foreground knowing that the Milky Way core would be rising at around 10pm from the east, leaving me few options where light pollution wouldn't be an issue. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too harsh at vic point. I loved the foreground and the lightning in the distance on the horizon, and the satellite creaping in was another unexpected surprise with th

This photo was taken a few years ago. I waited a long time for the right light and atmosphere. I was already cold when this picture appeared. I was very happy that my efforts were so generously rewarded.
